Laser finishes for November 17 and 18, 2012

Two windy days with the youth sailing radials and Max a 4.7 received time corrections on Saturday so if you remember what your place was,  you might find it just a little changed.   We had six races, but the youth were all out on their first little race so I dropped that and only listed the last five races.  It doesn’t really change things except to get the youth into the scoring better.  We all sailed radials on Sunday so no corrections there.

Max hung in there with the 4.7 sail and everyone else with a radial or full rig.  It gets you in the back of the pack and everyone giving you bad wind.  Good job Max.

Michael sailed better with a 7 and a lot of good experience in more wind.

Bailey disqualified himself after the third race.  Good sport, but practice the 360 and 720 turns and do them when you have a real question.  Good practice and keeps you in the race.

Craig Yates hasn’t sailed with us for a while and glad to see him back.  The 3 is often where can come in.

Cameron Smith was two points ahead of Luke in the Saturday races and then he didn’t come on Sunday. Let Luke get away from him.

Vince Renzoni is one of our faithful.  Getting a lot better and hung in there for all the races except the fourth on Sunday.  Rob finished and Vince and everyone else were capsized.  He brings Sally to help with the RC.

Dave Chapin first on Saturday and had other things to do on Sunday.

Marc Solal has been coming regularly again.  This was his kind of wind and did well except he broke his centerboard on the capsize in the last race.  I think we can find another board for him.

Sam liked the wind on Saturday, but a couple of the big gusts on Sunday made him think an old man was better on shore.

Luke really sailed well on Sunday and we were so glad to have him sail with us on Sunday.  A little challenge for Rob.

Light winds both days with races delayed on Sunday till the fog drifted away.

Max was caught with a radial sail on a really light day.  Even with correction we couldn’t get him out of last place.

Bailey had to get home and couldn’t finish that long race.

Cameron was tied with Luke on Saturday, both with a 3 and 4.

Rob Krentel was missed on Sunday while we sat around waiting for the fog to drift away.  He managed to stay with Dave on both days Saturday.

David Chapin had other things to do on Sunday and Luke took over the giving advice on the course and helped Vince around.

 

Marc Solal is one of our most regular sailors and was locked up with Vince in most of the races over the weekend.
They were tied on Saturday and sailing together on Sunday.

Sam was glad to be one point ahead of Vince for the weekend. 

Luke Yates sailed both days with us inspire of the tough conditions and showed that he could do it all and was helping others.  Keep coming Luke.

Windy day with two adults with full rigs and three youth in radials on Saturday.  Report is after time correction.  On Sunday Sam and Vince had radials and Marc sailed a full rig.  No time correction for adults.

Michael was last,  but only in two of the 8 races.  Look at the 3 and the 4.  Way to go Michael.

Darcy and Claire are practicing for the regatta next week and so were sailing a 420.  They were doing so well I added them to the Laser list.  Two second places and that should be a slower boat—Oh, yes they picked up a lot on corrected time.

Max Epaillard came and sailed an Opti—getting ready for the regatta.  Hope to have him back in a 4.7.

Cameron was right in there.  Two second places.

Marc Sola came a little late on Sunday.  He has been in Germany on his around the world jobs.  Sam beat him out on Sunday because he missed that first race.  He sailed a full rig and it was interesting to see that he was only faster with the lighter wind zones.

Vince Renzoni sailed both days and I was sorry not to give him second for the weekend, but Luke beat him out by one point.   Then Vince had his first win in the first race on Saturday and a couple of seconds on Sunday.  That is progress!!

Luke Yates continues to show the dominance of Youth.  Five first out of the eight races.  Won the Saturday event.

Sam was happy to be able to sail in all the races on both days.

Seven youth sailed with us on Saturday and five in radials and two in 4.7’s.  When I did corrected times Luke moved into second place in the first race while Claire in a 4.7 moved into 5. In the second race Darcy Jensen moved up to second.  In the third race Darcy moved to second again, Max in 4.7 up to 5 and Luke up to 6.  In the fourth race Luke moved to first.  In the last race Cameron moved to first.  So we had enough wind to get most everyone up to hull speed.

On Sunday everyone sailed a full rig.  Easier for RC and score keeper.

Charlie Jensen came out for the last two races on Sunday.  Thank you Charlie.  One of the nice things about our multiple race format is you can come late and join in the last races.

Baily Verkaik was back with us in radial and doing well until the rivets pulled out of his out haul bracket on boom.  Stainless rivets in Aluminum boom that has been in Salt water need to be replace by bolts as soon as you notice they are a little loose.

Andy Forrest came over from Lake Monroe to test out Laser. He had a good show with light wind in the first race and then getting stronger.

Leah Harper, one of our women, looks at those scores.  When everybody else was fading she was getting stronger.

Vince Renzoni was out in full rig both days and he is on the light side.  Maybe we need to keep him in a radial for a while.

Patrick Daniel had his tiller come out in the third race on Sunday.  Turned over and mast stuck in the mud good.  Luke and Rob finally got him loose and that is a long story.  Karen came with Patrick and went cruising.  We will try to get her to race with us.

Claire Epaillard is back with us and we had that brother and sister race in the 4.7s on Saturday.  Well at least you beat him in the first race Claire.

Darcy Jensen our College sailor back to show everyone how to do it. She missed the first race but then had two second places.  Wow.

Max Epaillard moved from the Opti and showed his sister how to sail a 4.7.   Another wow.

Michael Gapuz is getting better and better.  Show up both days and total score really go up.  You are number 6 of 15. And you had a 5 in the score sheet.  Sailed all the races. Way to go.

Rob Krentel will have to look out.  He only won one of the five races on Sunday, but did get Patrick out of his mess. 

Sam Chapin just needs a little more guts to stay out there when the wind is blowing.

Cameron Smith only won one race but hardly had any bad ones. That is a real sign on good sailing.

Jerry Beck is our adult leader.  Sam got mixed up when he sent in Article to paper and said it was Rob.

Well it was Rob, but only on Sunday.  Jerry was our winner on Saturday and our winning “master” for the week end.

Luke Yates was second on Saturday, first on Sunday and for the weekend.  It is really great to have him and Cameron and Michael come and race both days.  Try to keep it up guys...  You will get better and better.

Michael Gapuz is sailing better and managed to beat Vince in two races on Saturday and we are trying to get them both to sail a little better.

Chris Nagy was second youth.  He just got over a long bout of flu and I bet he will be harder to beat next time.

Cameron smith is up with the leader regularly and our first youth last club racing.

Vince Renzoni is the first one out on the race course and that will be paying off soon.

Jerry beck stepped up again on Sunday with 3’s in the last two races.  That is where he was sailing before the sore back.  Glad you are better Jerry.

Well are you ready to have Sam tell you that we are operating under the democratic system.  Because four of you went around the wrong mark in the second race you were scored as you finished, BUT when we sail the B course in reverse (because of the 180 degree wind change) you need to go around the B mark just like you did on the the first race B course.  Well, we didn’t DSQ you all; I don’t want you all to be crying.

Rob Krentel is last year’s CHAMPION and we have his name up on the wall in the Club House to prove it. He beat David in one race on Saturday and was with him most of the time on Sunday.

Dave Chapin won 5 of the six races over the weekend.   Well, he has had more practice sailing than most of us.  It takes some time, a little studying, some work on the boat.  Whenever I see those guys standing up and looking to windward I know we are in trouble and he started doing that when he was about 10 years old.

The Optimists sailed with us on a little shorter course...

Justin Harper is Leah’s younger brother (See above for Leah).  He got ahead of Matt in the last races.—good work Justin.

Matt Smith is another family member with his big brother Cameron sailing a full rig Laser.  He was chasing Max all morning.

Max Epaillard is regular Opti champ.  He has sailed the Laser 4.7 with us.  He is hard to beat in the Opti.

 

Michael Gapuz is getting some time in his Laser radial and managed a 5^th in the first windy race.  Good job Michael.

Leah Harper sailed a radial and this was her first time racing with us. She beat Claire twice and that is not easy to do.
Claire Epaillard was the top radial sailor.  When I corrected the times she jumped up to 5^th in the third race.  Our first woman.

Luke Yates had a bad first race that held him back.  Not sure what happened.

Jerry Beck usually loves this windy stuff, but a sore back held him back.  The three in the first race is his usual stuff and pushing the front.

Cameron Smith got a 2 in the last race and was our first youth.  Good job again Cameron.

Marc Solal came on Sunday and sailed a different boat.  It is tough when you changed boats, even the Lasers are all rigged a little different.  He did get one third but is usually better than that when it is windy.

Vince Renzoni changed over to a radial on Saturday so he missed most of the races and then when the wind died there he was in the radial.  He hung in there on Saturday with a full rig and beat Marc most of the time

Sam couldn’t get around the windward mark better than third.  He was lucky to do that.  Don’t complain.

Rob got to David on two of the races on Sunday.  That will make him work a little harder.

David Chapin continued to win most of the races.  What is it?  Nail the start, sail fast and hit all the shifts.

Michael sailed only on Saturday, but was last only in one race and had a seventh in the last race.  They tell me you are pinching too much.  Michael be sure you have the telltales on the sail and keep both of them flowing.  You may have to turn away from the wind some to get the one the windward side to flow.

Mathew Smith is Cameron’s young brother and pulled out of the Opti to sail a radial with us. 
Good job Mathew.  Look at that 6 in the third race.  Beat all those full rigs.

Charlie Jensen got out sailing with us on Sunday and pushing our numbers up to 12. Sunday was a tough day to sail with the light wind.  Come on Saturdays Charlie.

Max Epaillard showed us how he sailed the Opti so well.  He picked up one place in the first and last race on Saturday when I did the corrected times.  How about that 5^th place in eleven boats.

Cameron Smith was the youth leader on Saturday with a 3 and a 4.  Good work Cameron.

Vince Renzoni is one of our regulars and gradually improving.  He got out early on Sunday to check out the winds and get in some extra practice.  We should see more of that.

Luke Yates came back on Sunday to take his place as the first youth.  He was third overall on Sunday.  Good work Luke.

Jerry Beck had one of those weekends.  He won a race and was last in one.  The last two races on Saturday-  an 8 and then a first.

Sam apparently gets tired after an hour or so of racing and his numbers fall off.  See the note below on Alejandro.

Rob Krentel had a rough weekend.  He didn’t win a race but did get the third place trophy.

Alejandra Illera is back. It takes him a little time on the water to get warmed up.  Check his finishes both days.  Best of all he brought Maribel and Genesis, wife and daughter, back to visit.  Genesis is 13 yrs. old and as big as mom.  Wow.

Dave Chapin was back both days and didn’t win all the races, but showed us how to do it.  He sailed Kevin Ratigan's boat which you can buy from Sam.
